beIN’s subscribers and cinema goers tuned into beIN’s platforms to catch all the excitement of the Ajyal Film Festival 2020
beIN MEDIA GROUP, the global sports and entertainment media group, successfully broadcast Doha Film Institute’s (DFI) 8th Ajyal Film Festival (AFF) across MENA homes, uplifting cinema lovers’ moods during such challenging times. As the Official Media Sponsor, beIN concluded the first-ever hybrid event on its channels with the live coverage of the Closing Celebration and Award Ceremony from Katara Cultural Village on 23rd November 2020.
The Closing Award Ceremony brought together winners of the 8th Ajyal Film Festival from the sections of the Made in Qatar Competition Awards including Abdulaziz Jassim Award for Best Performance, Best Documentary and Best Narrative Award, and the Ajyal Jury Competition Awards for Best Short and Best Feature from the Mohaq, Hilal and Bader categories.
beIN set up live studios during the Closing Celebration between 6 – 7.30pm on 23rd November, where beIN’s popular entertainment presenters Marwa Khamis, Marianne Azzi and Nicky Crosby hosted several guests including DFI spokespeople, filmmakers, jury members and award winners. The beIN studio highlighted special festival moments, capturing key activities that took place throughout the week at the 8th Ajyal Film Festival.
During the week-long festival, beIN produced five minutes segments daily, to focus on the festival’s activities and film screenings. The segments showcased the Outbreak multi-media exhibition at inauguration where the crew interviewed several Qatari artists, ‘Made in Qatar’ movies in the Lusail Drive-in cinema and related activities, Ajyal Tunes and the Ajyal Film Festival online sessions and press briefings. Qatari artists like Khalifa Al-Mana, director of ‘Al-Tabbab’ and Abdulaziz Yousef, director of ‘Ya Hoota’ were interviewed during the week. Emerging artists like Noor Al-Aswad, director of ‘Under the lemon tree’ and Obada Jarbi, director of ‘Woman of Steel’, were also part of the daily segments.
In addition to the linear coverage on beIN MOVIES Youtube channel, the media group’s “Festival Week” on beIN MOVIES HD1 also proved to be a treat for film enthusiasts across MENA, who enjoyed Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and BAFTA® nominated and awarded movies like Joker, Knives Out and 1917.
beIN also organised a live studio at Katara Cultural Village during the Opening Ceremony on 18th November 2020, where they hosted guests like Fatma Hassan Alremaihi, Chief Executive Officer, Doha Film Institute, Abdulla Al Mosallam, Chief Administrative Officer, Doha Film Institute and Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani, Curator, Outbreak Exhibition among others.
